Originally from the Purépecha plateau in Michoacan, it is said that the Piñas Mexicanas and the Bizangas originated back in the 1960s. The artisans of this town are famous for creating these impressive pineapples, giving an undoubted hallmark to the state of Michoacan. Intended for decoration and use as soup tureens or punch bowls, each pineapple undergoes a very laborious process of manual work through the use of the pastillage and pinching technique, consisting of the application of many small pieces of clay modeled with organic shapes that cover the body of the pineapple, giving it a texture that evokes its surface.
